On April 4, 1966, Seymour's Black Creek Community Press was hit by a devastating fire that caused $50,000 in damage. The previous article, Part 3, contains a detailed report on the fire and its impact on the Seymour community.
Two adjacent, smaller warehouses were destroyed when the tornado left the city limits of Seymour. The tornado reached EF4 strength when it destroyed the Black Creek Community Press building and several other buildings in the area. It crossed the building, demolished the southern third of the buildings and left only a piece of the inner wall on the northern part. In addition to the fire damage, a large part of a small building on the corner of Main Street and Main Street had to be completely covered.
A fire that broke out in the furnace room of the South End Fire Station on Main Street went up in flames but was prevented from spreading by a quick response from the fire department. Knowing that the fire could spread to the reservoir, engineers ignored their burning clothes and hurriedly closed the valves in the engine room and reservoir to save the South End from disaster. The fire did not spread to the Black Creek Community Press building, however.
Although the department received numerous compliments, Captain Mory realized that the fire protection offered by his department was the result of the facility used by the firefighters. When I spoke to retired firefighter Chub Chubs, a former South End firefighter, he mentioned a similar reason for his service in a fire department.
Finding the right professionals to repair fire damage to your home is the responsibility of a reputable company to ensure that the work is done safely, correctly and, above all, efficiently. Although many like YouTube videos, they don't necessarily tell you everything you need to know about fire damage to a home as much as they should.
This can put your home or business in danger and require expert restoration. Although 400 families stayed overnight in evacuation centers in Seymour, the damage in the city is small compared to the August disaster. A severe storm that swept across the area over the past two days caused extensive damage to crops, but not to homes. The largest crowd Seymour has ever seen at a street fair was an estimated 35,000.
Firefighters helped make the event a success and drove the Seymour Jubilee procession. The fire was reported by Nichols, a firefighter who lives in the county, and his wife Linda, who was cooking steaks in their kitchen. Seymour's Lion Club gathered for its annual dinner at City Hall in downtown Seymour on Saturday, August 27.
